I want a job for next summer (2009) and I will be 16. I live in Georgia, but am willing to travel to neighboring states. I would love to be a camp counselor, but I don’t know if that is possible for my age. Or I would love to be a junior counselor, but I really do need to get paid. I am willing to give up most of my summer as long as I can make it back in time for school. I will be going into my junior year of high school.
yea i dont think its possible for ur age however u can take part in local camps to built up ur resume
Look online at volunteer.org. I am sure there will be orgnaizations that are willing to pay you a stipend for helping out.
Try looking at YMCA camps. While they are Christian, most of them focus more on being a good person than the whole Jesus thing.
You probably won’t be able to be a full-out counselor, but you might be a residential day camp person or just work at the nearest YMCA.
Since it is the middle of summer you probably will have difficulty finding a counselor position because you will have already missed all of the training , but def. check it out.
I think it depends on your state’s law about working as a teenager. It’s a good move on your part though to start looking to see what’s available. I’d suggest that you check out the following site: There’s thousands of listings for summer camp job positions. You can narrow down your search by searching by job title and location. You may be able to find something in Georgia, if not, you might try searching in neighboring states. Good luck!
